Lyft to Deliver Critical Medical Supplies and Meals During Coronavirus Quarantine

Sunday, March 22, 2020

Lyft Inc. announced on Friday (March 20) that it will expand services to include contact free delivery of crucial medical supplies, meals, and test kits to the elderly and children as the coronavirus spreads.

Drivers will pick up meals for distribution to seniors and children who previously received prepared meals from programs or schools. The pilot program will begin in the Bay Area with plans to expand services nationwide.

The company also announced earlier this month that it will “provide funds to drivers” who become sick or are in isolation due to coronavirus. With shelter in place orders, the ride-share business has plummeted as much as 80%.

In an email to drivers, Lyft co-founders John Zimmer and Logan Green said that they would donate their salaries until the end of June to support drivers during the coronavirus crisis.

Both Uber and Lyft have suspended the “pool” shared ride option on their platforms in the United States and Canada to comply with social distancing orders to fight the spread of coronavirus (Covid-19.)
