Zoe Kravitz to star as Catwoman in Matt Reeves “The Batman”

The Batman, an upcoming film by DC Comics about the caped crusader, is gathering tons of attention after an exciting recent development regarding the movie. A decision has been reached on which actress will star counter to Robert Pattinson as Batman. Zoe Kravitz, famous for playing Bonnie Carlson in the hit HBO series Big Little Lies, is going to act out the role of Catwoman in the anticipated picture.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Pattinson explained how he and leading lady, Zoe Kravitz have been friends for over ten years.

“Zoe’s great… she’s brilliant,” he said. But Pattinson isn’t the only big star gushing over Zoe’s new gig. After the news was released, Jason Momoa tweeted, “I’m so proud of you zozo bear. Unbelievable, so freaking stoked. You’re going to have so much fun.”

Kravitz has portrayed characters in, Mad Max: Fury Road, and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, however, Catwoman is predicted to be her breakout performance. Based on the overwhelming success of past DC movies, it seems likely that The Batman will be a huge success which could likely expand to forthcoming sequels for Kravitz.

The expectation for Zoe in her upcoming role as Catwoman is high. A number of famous actresses have filled the Catwoman claws such as; Michelle Pfeiffer - 1992 Batman Returns; Halle Berry - 2004 Catwoman; and, Anne Hathaway - 2012 The Dark Knight Rises. Of all these names Michelle Pfeiffer’s portrayal has gone down as easily the most iconic big-screen version. Pfeifer gave some insight for Zoe in an interview with Good Morning America, “make sure whilst designing the costume, they consider how you’re going to go to the bathroom.”

A timeline of Batman and Catwoman’s 78-year courtship has been a complicated one. Originally she was simply another villain, like the Joker, or the Penguin, but her character eventually evolved into an antihero. Not necessarily evil, but not a true hero either. An antihero is a relatable and sympathetic character that follows a darker path, usually because of poor circumstances or initially good intentions.

Catwoman’s true identity is that of Selina Kyle. Kyle, orphaned as a young girl had to rely on her smarts and cunning in order to survive in the tough Gotham city streets. She also ended up becoming Batman’s main love interest. Throughout the course of the comics, they have an on-again, off-again, love/hate affair.

It will be interesting to see what form Zoe’s version will take in the film. A chaotic on-screen romance between Zoe Kravitz and Robert Pattinson is more than enough to get fans worked up for this motion picture. The Batman is expected to be released on June 25th, 2021, and rumor has it that filming will begin early next year.
