It's that time of the year again, when the stars serve up the most flamboyant and massive looks for the 2022 Costume Institute Gala (also known as the Met Ball).
The theme this year was "In America: A Lexicon of Fashion" with the dress code of "Gilded Glamour."
See some of our favorite celebritiy looks honey!
KIM KARDASHIAN AND PETE DAVIDSON
Kim Kardashian paid homage to one of the most iconic moments in American pop culture history at the 2022 Met Gala on Monday when she donned the same dress Marilyn Monroe famously wore to sing “Happy Birthday” to President John F. Kennedy in 1962.
The dress, a flesh-colored, figure-hugging column gown inspired by a Bob Mackie sketch for costume designer Jean-Louis, is covered in rhinestones and caused a sensation when Monroe revealed it, seemingly nude, after shedding her white fur to sing a sultry rendition of “Happy Birthday” to JFK at Madison Square Garden in front of an audience of nearly 15,000.
The night’s theme was inspired by the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s 2022 Costume Institute exhibit, In America: An Anthology of Fashion. Procuring Monroe’s original dress was no easy feat, however. To do it, Kardashian reached out to Ripley’s Believe It or Not Museum in Orlando, who bought the dress in 2016 in a $4.8 million sale that still holds the record for being the most expensive dress ever sold at auction.
BELLA HADID
Bella gave us some couture vampire bride vibes in a Burberry leather corset gown over lace tights with a multistrand pearl necklace from Briony Raymond worn as an anklet and Dorsey earrings.
EMRATA Emily Ratajkowski
Model Emily Ratajkowski dipped into the gala donning vintage Versace for her daring 2022 look.
The model and My Body author arrived at the red carpet with an interpretation of Gilded Glamour that leaned heavily on color, cutouts, and throwback edge. The look came courtesy of Versace, circa 1992. Key details included a skin-baring, beaded bodice folded into a high-low skirt. She accentuated the revealing dress with a high bun—the better to show off the neckline.
OLIVIA RODRIGO
19-year-old Rodrigo sparkled on the red carpet in glitter and glam wearing a sparkly “Sour Purple” (or lilac) gown custom-made by Versace, which draped at the shoulders and featured a slit at the leg.
GWEN STEFANI
Gwen Stefani did her makeup on her own. And to be completely honest, The Voice judge has the makings of a true professional.
To create an edgy look that complimented her custom neon green Vera Wang gown, Stefani turned to her namesake beauty brand, GXVE (pronounced ‘give’) for help.
