O.J. Simpson, Disgraced Football Player, Dies at 76

O.J. Simpson, the former champion football running back-turned-actor who was acquitted of murder charges of his ex-wife, Nicole Simpson Brown and her friend, Ron Goldman, has died of cancer, confirmed by his family via X social post on Thursday. He was 76 years old.



The Simpson family X caption wrote, “On April 10th, our father, Orenthal James Simpson, succumbed to his battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his children and grandchildren. During this time of transition, his family asks that you please respect their wishes for privacy and grace.”

Simpson spent a lifetime in the public eye, first for his NFL career, then in movies and a variety of commercials, including a famous 1978 Hertz car rental commercial, then as a murder suspect in the 1994 killing of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ron Goldman.


While many believe Simpson's money bought his a get out of jail free card, the murder trial was no the last of his legal woes. O.J. Simpson was released from prison in 2017 after serving almost nine years of a 33-year sentence for a kidnapping and armed robbery in 2007 as part of a group that raided a Las Vegas hotel and casino to steal sports memorabilia from two dealers at gunpoint.


OJ was convicted on charges including kidnapping, armed robbery and assault with a deadly weapon. During his years in prison, Simpson passed the time by writing a book that as considered a confession


Simpson was granted an early parole discharge in 2021, according to the Nevada Department of Public Safety.
