Netflix is sharpening its knives once again—Monster is back. The streaming giant's hit anthology series is plunging into one of America’s most chilling legends for Season 4: the notorious case of Lizzie Borden. And in true Monster fashion, the casting is already sending shockwaves through true-crime fandom.

Stepping into the haunting role of Lizzie Borden is rising star Ella Beatty, daughter of Annette Bening and Warren Beatty. The British-American actress is about to prove she's more than Hollywood royalty—she’s the main event in what’s shaping up to be the creepiest chapter of Monster yet. Beatty will portray the seemingly genteel yet enigmatic socialite accused of axing her father and stepmother in 1892. Expect her to balance poise with menace, delivering a Lizzie who’s equal parts lace-trimmed civility and razor-sharp suspicion.

Joining her is the always-electric Rebecca Hall, taking on the role of Abby Borden, Lizzie’s much-loathed stepmother. With her masterful emotional range, Hall is primed to bring unsettling nuance to a woman often painted as cold and calculating. The role marks a chilling homecoming to psychological drama for Hall, whose previous performances (Christine, The Night House) prove she knows her way around a slow-burn unraveling.

And then there’s Vicky Krieps, the Swiss breakout known for Phantom Thread and Corsage, who will embody Bridget Sullivan—the maid whose testimony turned the tide of the Borden trial. As the story’s overlooked witness to both domestic dysfunction and unspeakable violence, Krieps is expected to breathe quiet intensity into a role ripe with repressed truths.

While Netflix hasn’t dropped an official release date yet, this casting news alone has set the internet ablaze. The new season will likely explore not only the infamous double homicide, but also the twisted domestic dynamics and socio-political tensions simmering beneath Fall River’s starched collars and shuttered windows.

Monster creators Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan are once again behind the curtain, promising the same meticulous period drama-meets-true-crime formula that turned The Jeffrey Dahmer Story and The Menéndez Brothers chapters into pop culture juggernauts.

So grab your parasols and prepare for blood spatter—this fall, Monster is resurrecting Lizzie Borden’s legend for a whole new generation. And if the cast is any clue, it’s going to be a slasher in silk gloves.
