Anamika Khanna is a global fashion designer who is best known for her signature style of blending rich textiles, intricate beadwork and lavish layered materials with a modern-day western silhouette. Khanna is the first Indian woman designer to have an international label, Ana mika, presented at Paris Fashion Week in 2007. Since, Khanna’s name has become a global brand with her work featured in countless editorials and red carpets with celebrity clients such as, Kim Kardashian and Bollywood Star, Shanaya Kapoor, just to name a few.

The amount of work that goes into Khanna’s collections qualifies as a form of art, from the research behind the idea to the sketching of designs to the attention to detail required in creating each piece. Khanna’s signature designs create a kind of elusive and aspirational glamour with an ultra lux feel.

Khanna will be honored with her designs on display at Phoenix Art Museum’s exhibit “India: Fashion’s Muse” from Feb. 29- June 21, 2020 at the Ellman Fashion Design Gallery. Curated by Helen Jean, the show will present how Indian dress, aesthetic, and artwork has inspired Western fashion design from streetwear to runway couture.

The exhibition coincides with India Fashion Week and features over 60 pieces of clothing, accessories and jewelry on display including 19th century pieces which are on loan to the Phoenix Art Museum from private collectors and other museums. Anamika Khanna is just one of the featured designers whose work will be displayed alongside famed western designers Pierre Balmain, Jean Louis, Judith Leiber, Bob Mackie, Alexander McQueen, Versace, Halston, Givenchy, and more.

India: Fashion’s Muse shines a spotlight on today’s emerging Indian fashion designers who are expertly merging the exquisite craft of the old-world artisan techniques with the aesthetics and technology of the 21st century.
