The news of Brian Wilson’s death at age 82 has left the music world mourning. As the mastermind behind The Beach Boys' most iconic songs, his legacy continues to shape generations of artists.

Wilson's death was confirmed by his family on Tuesday. As fans and musicians across the globe mourn, they also celebrate the legacy of a man whose influence touched nearly every corner of modern pop.

Rising to fame with sun-soaked hits like “California Girls” and “Surfin’ U.S.A.,” Wilson’s genius truly came alive in the studio. Albums such as Pet Sounds and the long-shelved Smile revealed an artist working on a different plane—layering complex arrangements and emotional depth beneath seemingly simple pop tunes. His magnum opus, “Good Vibrations,” remains a masterclass in sonic innovation.

But Wilson’s story was not without turbulence. Plagued for decades by mental illness, including schizoaffective disorder, and periods of isolation and substance abuse, he became as known for his struggles as for his brilliance. His life was later dramatized in the acclaimed film Love & Mercy, with Paul Dano and John Cusack portraying his younger and older selves, respectively.

Despite the personal challenges, Wilson’s music never stopped resonating. In later years, he returned to the stage and the studio, performing to sold-out crowds and releasing new work that reaffirmed his enduring artistry. His vulnerability, honesty, and genius earned him the status of a true American icon.

In a touching recent episode of KCRW’s Bent By Nature, Wilson opened up about his creative journey, love for harmonies, and the music that still moved him. The interview has become a poignant tribute in its own right—offering fans a final glimpse into the mind of a legend.

Tributes have poured in from across the music world. Paul McCartney called Wilson “one of the greatest musical talents of our lifetime,” while Questlove praised his “fearless vision.” Wilson is survived by his children and those who stood by him through his remarkable, often tumultuous life.

As the world revisits his soaring compositions—from “God Only Knows” to “Don’t Worry Baby”—Brian Wilson’s spirit lives on in every harmony, every echo, every note that dares to dream.

Rest in peace legend, our hearts and thoughts go out to his family and friends.
