Amazon Prime Video kicked off the release of 'The Aeronauts' with a nationwide immersive tour called, The Incredible Journey at the Rose Bowl, Los Angeles.

The Incredible Journey tour will promote early screenings of the Amazon Prime Movie: The Aeronauts, starring Felicity Jones and Eddie Redmayne. Director Tom Harper blends fact and fiction by telling the story of a daredevil balloon pilot who teams up with a pioneering meteorologist to discover more about the weather and fly higher than anyone.

The events of the film are in part based on Richard Holmes’ 2013 Falling Upwards: How We Took to the Air, and Glaisher’s 1862 record-breaking journey that took him 38,999 ft above the ground. Jones’ character is loosely based on Sophie Blanchard (world’s first female aeronaut) and other female aeronauts of the era. She is the daredevil spirit of the movie. For the sake of authenticity, producers David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman filmed Redmayne and Jones in a functional hot-air balloon as high as 8,000 feet while filming scenes from a helicopter.

Guests get to screen the film on the world’s first Fly- In Theatre: a 20 foot LED screen wrapped 360 degrees around a hot-air balloon. It is the world’s first and only flying- hot-air balloon screen in history. It took over 18 months to create and consists of over 76,000 individual pixels. They need a team of 19 crew members to operate it.

The fan experience itself transports attendees to the year 1862 with a Victorian traveling fair theme. The immersive experience is a thrill, complete with costumed period performers and vendors, along with a “Mammoth” hot-air balloon (as featured in the film) where guests can actually on board the balloon for a ride. Amazon has truly outdone themselves with this clever way to experience the film. The Aeronauts movie will be available on Amazon Prime Video on December 20th, just in time for the holidays!

The event is free and The Aeronauts’ Incredible Journey's next stop is San Francisco. Fan experience cities include:

Los Angeles, California – Saturday, November 23 through Sunday, November 24

San Francisco, California – Tuesday, November 26

Phoenix, Arizona – Saturday, November 30

Atlanta, Georgia – Tuesday, December 10

Orlando, Florida – Friday, December 13

Austin, Texas – Tuesday, December 17

In addition to The Fair, The Aeronauts will also be available in 70MM in select cities so audiences can experience the technical accomplishments and special effects of the film.
