November 21, 2019

Rick Owens has returned to Los Angeles after living in Paris for 16 years. The designer and author hosted a book signing party for Rizzoli publishing on November 18th. The night also marked Owen’s 58th birthday.

The invitation-only event took place at the Rick Owens Flagship store on La Brea Ave. Hundreds of leather-clad fans waited in a line wrapped around the block for an autographed copy of Owen’s two new coffee table books. The California native signed copies for newly released, “Legaspi by Rick Owens” and “Rick Owens Photographed by Danielle Levitt,” both published by Rizzoli.

LeGaspi by Rick Owens, is about self-taught designer, Larry Legaspi, whose widely known for his 70s metallic space age stage costumes worn by musical icons such as; Grace Jones, George Clinton, and, the rock band, KISS. LeGaspi died in 2001 from AIDS while living an impoverished life. A few years ago, Owens announced that he would publish a book that would pay homage to LeGaspi’s career and life.

Rick Owens Photographed by Danielle Levitt is a dynamic visual presentation of Owen’s work over the past decade.

Later that evening, the 52,000 square foot store was transformed into foggy club-like scene where Owens took to the dance floor with wife and creative partner, Michèle Lamy.
