Dune will be part one of two movies based on Herbert’s original book. Part one will introduce the world of Arrakis aka Dune and the various characters, including the infamous sandworm.

The official synopsis reads: Dune tells the story of Paul Atreides, a brilliant young man born into a great destiny beyond his understanding, who must travel to the most dangerous planet in the universe to ensure the future of his family and his people. As malevolent forces explode into conflict over the planet’s exclusive supply of the most precious resource in existence—a commodity capable of unlocking humanity’s greatest potential—only those who can conquer their fear will survive.

The film’s original release date of November 20, 2020 was pushed out to December 18, 2020 because of the Covid-19 pandemic. “Dune” was filmed on location in Hungary and Jordan with an estimated cost of up to $200 million while the sequel is still in development. David Lynch's previous adaptation of Dune earned just $31 million on a $40 million budget in 1984.

Dune is slated for release the weekend before Christmas on December 18, 2020, worldwide release from Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary.
